CECD Hosts Second National Capital Region Energetics Symposium

The Center for Energetic Concepts Development (CECD) hosted, in collaboration with the Energetics Technology Center (ETC), the Second National Capital Region Energetics Symposium (NCRES) on November 1 and 2, 2011, at the College of Southern Maryland in LaPlata, MD. The symposium objective is to provide researchers, developers, engineers, scientists, and program managers a forum for the exchange of information on current work related to the advancement of the technology and application of energetics and energetics systems.
The 2011 NCRES hosted 150 participants from government, academia and industry. The symposium's keynote speaker was Dr. Arun A. Seraphin, the Deputy Director for Defense Programs in the Office of Science & Technology Policy at the White House, who emphasized the importance of funding science and technology and the President's commitment to S&T. Symposium attendees also heard from additional speakers, including retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Millard Firebaugh and Mr. Dennis McLaughlin, Technical Director at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division. Participants attended breakout sessions on topics including: nanoenergetics, energetic materials and their manufacturing.
The next National Capital Region Energetics Symposium is planned for the Fall of 2013.
