UMD    CECD

College Park, MD, June 1, 2013

CECD is pleased to announce that Stefan Wirth has joined CECD as a research associate. Stefan will be involved in building up a new and permanent synthetic laboratory for synthesis of novel energetic materials at the University of Maryland. His research will focus on design and application of new Metal-Organic Frameworks.

Prior to joining CECD, Stefan received his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Munich (LMU), Germany, under the guidance of Prof. I.-G. Lorenz. He spent several years working on the coordination of nitroso compounds to transitions metals complexes, which mainly implied metal-organic chemistry and organic synthesis. His Master’s and PhD theses both received the Dr. Klaus Römer-Foundation Award.

Selected Publications:

1. “Reactivity of 4-nitrosoanilines towards dimeric halogenido-bridged complexes of iridium(III) and rhodium(III) of the type [(η5-C5Me5)MX2]2”, S. Wirth, I.-P. Lorenz, Z. Naturforsch. B 2012, 67b, 532–542.

2. “1,4-Bis(4-nitrosophenyl)piperazine: novel bridging ligand in dinuclear complexes of rhodium(III) and iridium(III)”, S. Wirth, F. Barth, I.-P. Lorenz, Dalton Trans. 2012, 41, 2176–2186.

3. “Tautomerization of 2-nitroso-N-arylanilines by coordination as N,N'-chelate ligands to rhenium(I) complexes and the anticancer activity of newly synthesized oximine rhenium(I) complexes against human melanoma and leukemia cells in vitro”, S.
