Lean Financial Processes Workshop
The Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock, Dahlgren, and Indian Head Divisions seek to improve the processes for generating financial statements. These processes involve personnel at these three divisions and at DFAS Charleston. The divisions have lost personnel in the offices that perform these processes and would like to reduce the time required to complete the statements. Moreover, the processes vary between divisions and there are opportunities for standardization and mistake-proofing. As part of the NAVSEA initiative to apply lean principles across the enterprise, the divisions desire to conduct a value stream mapping and lean manufacturing training project and to obtain assistance from the University of Maryland through the existing CECD Partnership agreement. This assistance would involve training NSWC and DFAS personnel on Lean concepts and the value stream mapping approach. The assistance would also involve facilitating the value stream mapping effort and providing external review of the implementation.
