The Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division conducted a rapid improvement event (RIE) to develop a single-piece flow manufacturing cell for the warhead inert prep and final assembly of the MK 125.  The RIE would also create a 5S work area for these operations.  This RIE results from a value stream analysis of the MK 125 that is part of the NAVSEA initiative to apply lean principles across the enterprise.  NSWC IHDIV desired to obtain assistance from the University of Maryland through the existing CECD Partnership agreement.  This assistance would include facilitating a four-day RIE, participating in follow-up activities, and providing external review of the implementation.   The RIE portion of this work took place Jan. 18-21, 2005.
